In the News 4/21/08 - The collaborative partnership between the Brown County Port & Solid Waste Department, Sustainable Green Bay Task Force, Streu's Pharmacy Bay Natural, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission has surpassed EPA's goal for the entire Great Lakes region by collecting approximately 1.2 million pills from over 700 residents. 4/15/08 - EPA, Brown County, Sustainable Green Bay Task Force, and Streu's Pharmacy have partnered together to collect unused medication from area residents. Help reduce pollution and prevent water contamination by bringing your unwanted medications to Streu's Pharmacy, 635 Main Street, Green Bay on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Collected medications will be disposed of in a legal, environmentally safe manner. 4/11/08 - Engineering Consultants of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District win Engineering Excellence Award for "Tale of Two Cities". Camp Dresser & McKee, CH2M Hill, Earth Tech Inc., and Eisenhardt Group won a Best of State Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Wisconsin for producing a facilities plan for the consolidation and regionalization of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District and City of De Pere's wastewater treatment utilities. 4/8/08 - Einstein Project Receives Generous Gift from the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage. The Einstein Project has received a generous contribution from the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District for $14,579 to purchase an additional "Organisms: Macro to Micro" middle school science unit, five teacher supplements, and sponsorship of the science units for the next three school years. 1/1/08 - GBMSD and De Pere Consolidate Utilities. Through innovative planning and cooperative negotiations between GBMSD and De Pere, the utilities officially united, resulting in a combined wastewater utility that will now serve over 219,000 residents. GBMSD welcomes the addition of 18 employees from the De Pere facility and looks forward to being better equipped to serve future metropolitan growth. 6/1/07 - GBMSD administers $50,000 grant for dental offices. GBMSD has a received a $50,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for assisting dental offices in Brown and Outagamie counties in the capture and proper disposal of mercury amalgam fillings to prevent mercury from entering the environment. GBMSD will administer the grant, offering rebates to dental offices that voluntarily install equipment that will trap the mercury amalgam that is normally washed down the sanitary sewers as the fillings are replaced or removed from dental patients' mouths.
