A section of sewer where wastewater flows from a higher elevation to a lower elevation due to the force of gravity. Wherever possible, wastewater collection systems are designed to use gravity to convey wastewater to GBMSD for treatment.
Lift stations are used in a sewer system to lift (pump) wastewater to a higher elevation when the route followed by a gravity sewer becomes too deep. Lift stations vary in size and type based on the volume of wastewater pumped and the height the wastewater must be lifted.
This is a sewer that transports wastewater under pressure from a lift station to a gravity sewer.
Here the wastewater is metered and sampled to calculate flows and strengths so the contributing communities are billed correctly.
