As part of the In-District Sustainability Strategic Investment GBMSD staff worked together to have two solar panel tracking units installed within the community. The group selected property at Meter Station #14, located at 3490 Scottwood Drive, because of space availability for the tracking unit, direct sunlight access, and community visibility.

Each tracking unit is approximately 13'-4" by 16'-8" and 4'-0" above grade. The two solar panel tracking unites are capable of producing about 10,000 kWh annually. All the power generated from the solar panels will first be used to power Meter Station #14, and the rest will be sold back to WPS each year.

"Although the project is a small step towards energy independence, it is the right step for a business that uses a significant amount of electricity to turn dirty water into clean water for the protection of public health and the environment" said Tom Sigmund, Executive Director.

The funding for this project was in part through a Focus on Energy grant and a Wisconsin Public Service matching grant, totaling $29,150. GBMSD's share of the project cost was $21,850. The solar panels have a 25-year warranty and are expected to last 30 to 40 years.
