Phosphorus

Phosphorus is a naturally occurring nutrient that is present in all water.  In most fresh water systems, phosphorus is the nutrient that causes the growth of nuisance algae.  Excess algae causes the Fox River and Bay of Green Bay to look green and turbid, resulting in diminished water quality.
